Delivery is more than mileage
Mileage matters, but so do loading time, traffic, parking, building access, return travel, and the risk of a narrow delivery window. A delivery zone or per-mile policy can work well when it includes a sensible minimum.
When free delivery makes sense
A free local radius can simplify sales, but it should be supported by adequate order minimums. Otherwise the business absorbs travel costs on small orders. Model the true cost before advertising a free zone.
Price staffed service by time
For staffed catering or a food truck, service time is often the clearest basis for labor charges. Define whether billed time includes setup, breakdown, and travel. Use the event start and end times and round consistently.
Explain every fee
Customers respond better when fees have clear names and reasons. Avoid vague charges. Show delivery, staffed service, equipment, tax, and gratuity separately so the total feels transparent.
